Voices of UNRWA blog:
palestine refugee stories
The Voices of UNRWA blog is dedicated to providing American readers with real stories of Palestine refugees and their lives.
This blog features many stories of UNRWA alumni, many of whom now call the United States home.
We welcome guest writers, especially UNRWA alumni, to contribute stories and articles for consideration to our collection.
If you’re interested in guest writing, please get in touch.
To My Baba, on Father’s Day
Like so many Palestinians looking for a place to plant roots and call home, my father searched for that all his life. Home for him was an elusive notion but always within reach. Having a safe haven for his family was a given but making it resemble the ‘B’lad’ (homeland) was another challenge. In honor of this Father’s Day, I will be making Knafeh and remembering the man who instilled in me pride in my heritage and everlasting love and yearning for Palestine.
The magicians behind UNRWA USA
The Gaza 5K is UNRWA USA’s signature event, and since 2012 it's been instrumental in generating critical mental health support for Palestine refugees in the Gaza Strip. But really, YOU are the magic behind our mission.
Rana Abu-Sbaih is a long time friend and supporter of our work. In honor of our upcoming NYC Gaza 5K happening in Brooklyn on Saturday, March 5, 2022, we briefly chatted with Rana about her contributions over the years, what inspires her volunteerism, and why she chooses UNRWA USA to express her solidarity with Palestine refugees.
