NAAMA-NJ Holds Successful Fundraiser to Help Heal Gaza

WASHINGTON, DC | unrwausa.org | November 26, 2014 -- UNRWA USA is proud to announce that the National Arab American Medical Association (NAAMA) New Jersey Chapter held a very successful dinner on October 19 which raised $121,113.33 USD for the purchase of medical and school supplies for those displaced by the recent violence in Gaza. This generous contribution will help UNRWA to critical medical support to the people of Gaza and help rebuild classrooms that were destroyed during the summer assault on Gaza.

This summer’s hostilities in Gaza left the people facing heartbreaking death, destruction, and displacement. At the height of the crisis, approximately 300,000 innocent civilians were forced to leave their homes and all that they owned, seeking safe shelter in UNRWA schools. The need for shelter, protection, medical support, and education for children is critical. For families who have lost everything, the support provided by NAAMA-New Jersey will prove invaluable in ensuring the health and vitality of those who need help most.

UNRWA USA and NAAMA-New Jersey’s partnership reflects their dedication to protecting and assisting the people of Gaza during this devastating time. The needs of the displaced in Gaza are vast, but with the support of NAAMA-New Jersey, UNRWA will continue to provide essential support to alleviate the immense suffering and help begin the healing and rebuilding process.

UNRWA USA’s Executive Director, Abby Smardon, said β€œto see the immense compassion and generosity of the NAAMA community in New Jersey for Gaza is truly inspiring. It was a devastating summer for the people of Gaza, and with over 100,000 people still homeless, some of the hardest work has just begun. The support that NAAMA-NJ is providing will be a life-line to those in need, and UNRWA USA looks forward to continuing to build on this critically-important partnership.”
